In 1952, long before the San Diego vinyl windows industry of today existed, Dois Webster, David Huntamer’s grandfather, started in the window and door industry. Dois worked with wood windows until aluminum windows became the new idea, and he joined right in as an independent installation contractor, working for Premiere, the largest window manufacturer in Southern California. Dois had a fleet of trucks and a large crew of installers, including his son Ed, providing installation in the large and expanding production home market, making Premiere the industry leader here in Southern California. If you had aluminum windows in your Southern California home back in the 1950s, 60s, or 70s, then chances are they were Premiere windows. Many of those same homes still have the same windows today.

In the 1960s, when the building industry started booming here in San Diego, Dois’ brother Tex moved to start his own San Diego windows and doors business. In 1967, Dois himself came to join Tex while still working for Premiere. They installed windows and doors in residential, multi-family, and commercial buildings all over San Diego County. A Sunday family drive usually consisted of checking job sites and proudly pointing out all their finished accomplishments, which were many. In 1968, having finished his obligation to the United States Army after serving in Vietnam, Ed and his family joined his dad Dois in the installation business.

By the mid-1970s Dois wanted to branch out and include shower doors and mirrors which had been manufactured in Los Angeles. Dois purchased the product line from Premiere and opened El Cajon Shower Door in El Cajon. Dois continued installing doors and windows for Premiere until the early 1980s, when he decided to design and manufacture his own line of quality aluminum doors and windows. He named his new company Premier Products. During the heyday of building production track housing in San Diego, Premier became the new industry leader. Premier supplied windows, doors, shower doors, and mirrors to just about every builder in San Diego, as well as many others all over Southern California. His son Ed continued to work with him, now managing the window and door installation crew.

By this time, his daughter Debi had married and had 4 children. Her husband, Stephen Huntamer, joined the business. Dois believed you had to learn the business from the ground up, so his children had to learn all aspects of the business. He believed in offering good customer service and a quality product and taught those values to his family. So Steve started in the company assembling doors. Then working his way up, he eventually started his own window and door installation business, teaching his boys as he had been taught. His oldest son, David, started making screens in his dad’s shop when he was only 8 years old. Then at 10 years old he was papering and carrying windows and loading trucks. He was driving fully loaded one-ton window trucks at age 16, making job site deliveries to the crews. He was a natural, and always willing to work; he loaded trucks after school in the evening.

At about 22 years old David went to work for a vinyl window company, learning all he could about the new technology for residential replacement windows while working with new products and design. After working for others, David decided to go out on his own. He hired a crew for installing vinyl insulated windows and earned the respect of many manufacturers with his outstanding work ethic and customer service. Early in 2003 he was approached by a leading window manufacturer. They suggested he open his own window company and provide the quality sales and installation he was known for. David and his wife Holly, one installer, and a sales person began the task of building Window Solutions into a successful business. Today, Window Solutions has a vast customer base, including large companies such as Holiday Inn, large and small apartment complexes, condominium associations, single family homes, and both custom and production tract work.
